Warsan Shire is a writer, poet, editor and teacher.  Her debut pamphlet, Teaching My Mother How to Give Birth (flipped eye publishing), was published in 2011 and is a Bestselling Book of Poetry.  She went on to win the Inaugural Brunel University African Poetry Prize in 2013 and in 2014 she was appointed as the first Young Poet Laureate for London.   In the same year she was selected as Poet in Residence for Queensland, Australia and she published the poetry album Warsan vs Melancholy (the seven stages of being lonely).  In 2015 she was a Judge for the Forward Prize for Poetry and she also released a limited edition pamphlet Her Blue Body (flipped eye publishing) as a part of her tenure as Young Poet Laureate.  In 2016 she collaborated with Beyoncé Knowles Carter on the film adaptation and poetry for the Emmy and Grammy Nominated visual album Lemonade.
